Obamacare in Georgia: how to enroll through Georgia Access
Georgia Access is the state's official health insurance marketplace. Apply on your own or get help from a certified agent. Enroll America is an independent licensed agency, not Georgia Access or a government agency.
Georgia residents use Georgia Access to apply for individual and family ACA coverage, receive an eligibility decision, and enroll. Georgia Access is a marketplace, not an insurance company. A licensed Enroll America agent can help you apply and review options by phone in English or Spanish.
2027 Georgia Access Open Enrollment dates
For 2027 coverage, Georgia Access Open Enrollment runs from November 1, 2026 through January 15, 2027.
| When you enroll | Coverage start date |
|---|---|
| November 1 through December 15, 2026 | January 1, 2027 |
| December 16, 2026 through January 15, 2027 | February 1, 2027 |
Choosing a plan does not activate coverage by itself. Pay the first premium by the insurance company's deadline and check your enrollment notice for the confirmed start date. These dates are specific to Georgia; other state marketplaces may differ.
Renewing a plan or applying for the first time
If you already have Georgia Access coverage
Update your existing application rather than starting over. Read the notices from Georgia Access and your insurer, then compare the available 2027 plans. Georgia Access says it automatically re-enrolls current consumers into their existing plan ahead of Open Enrollment, but household income, plan details, and estimated financial assistance can change. If your current insurer will not offer plans in your area for 2027, you will need to select another plan.
Respond to any request for income or other verification by the deadline in the notice.
If you do not have Georgia Access coverage
Start a new application during Open Enrollment. Outside that window, you generally need a Special Enrollment Period based on a qualifying life event. Keep the event date and supporting documents nearby when you apply.
Not sure whether your current plan went through Georgia Access? Have your policy details and latest notices ready when you call. They help establish whether you need a renewal or a new application.
What to have ready
You can call before you have every document. These details make the application easier to complete accurately:
- Your Georgia home address, ZIP code, phone number, and an email address you check
- Names and dates of birth for everyone seeking coverage
- Social Security numbers for applicants who have them, or immigration document details when applicable
- Your tax-filing situation, including your spouse and tax dependents, even if they do not need coverage
- Your best estimate of 2027 household income
- Job-based coverage offered to a household member, current insurance details, and Georgia Access renewal notices
- The date and supporting papers for a qualifying life event when applying outside Open Enrollment
- Doctors, prescriptions, and preferred pharmacies to consider when comparing plans
Recent pay stubs, tax forms, or self-employment records can help with the income estimate. Use expected income for the coverage year, not simply last year's total. Georgia Access will send a notice if it needs verification.
Common household situations
A job or employer plan is ending
Find the exact coverage end date. Losing qualifying coverage may open a Special Enrollment Period from 60 days before through 60 days after the loss. Keep the employer or insurer notice, and confirm the new plan's start date before ending existing coverage.
You are self-employed or do gig work
Estimate expected net self-employment income for 2027 after business expenses, along with other household income. Update the application if your income changes.
You moved to Georgia or within the state
A move to Georgia, a new ZIP code, or a new county may qualify you for a Special Enrollment Period. Generally, you must have had qualifying coverage for at least one day in the 60 days before the move. Different rules apply to moves from a foreign country or U.S. territory.
Your household changed
Marriage, birth, adoption, and gaining a court-appointed dependent can open a Special Enrollment Period. Divorce or legal separation qualifies when it causes a loss of coverage; divorce by itself does not. Include spouse and tax-dependent information even when those people are not applying, subject to the application's household rules.
What happens on a call with Enroll America
- We identify the right task. The agent asks whether you are renewing or applying for the first time, who needs coverage, and which enrollment window may apply.
- We go through the application. This includes your address, tax household, estimated income, current coverage, and employer coverage offers.
- We review the result and available options. The agent can help compare premiums, deductibles, out-of-pocket costs, plan rules, doctors, and prescriptions. Availability depends on your location, eligibility result, and the options offered through our enrollment path.
- You decide whether to proceed. Watch for Georgia Access notices, provide requested documents, and pay the insurer by its deadline.
Georgia Access determines eligibility and financial assistance. We cannot promise eligibility, savings, enrollment approval, or coverage activation. We review options available through our enrollment path and do not claim to offer every Georgia plan.

Georgia Obamacare questions
Is Georgia Access the same as Obamacare?
No. Obamacare is another name for the ACA. Georgia Access is Georgia's official marketplace for applying for and enrolling in ACA individual and family coverage.
Can I apply after Open Enrollment ends?
Only if you qualify for a Special Enrollment Period or another enrollment rule applies. Depending on the event, Georgia Access gives consumers 60 or 90 days to enroll, and documentation may be required.
If my plan renews automatically, do I need to do anything?
You do not need to start a new application, but review the renewal, update the existing application, compare 2027 options, and respond to document requests. Automatic re-enrollment does not mean your plan or financial assistance will stay unchanged.
Can an agent tell me what financial help I will get?
Georgia Access makes the eligibility decision after you apply. An agent can help with the application and explain the result, but cannot guarantee a credit or savings amount.
Does Enroll America show every Georgia plan?
No. We review options available through our enrollment path and do not claim to represent every Georgia Access plan. You can explore other enrollment options through the official Georgia Access website.
